Famous Battle Forces and Warriors
Some of the most famous battle forces and warriors in the medieval ages were hoplites, gladiators, Spartans, knights, samurai, ninja, and assassins. Hoplites were Greek warriors who often made up Greek cavalry. Hoplites mostly fought with spears, using the phalanx battle technique. One of the most famous hoplites was Alexander the Great. Gladiators fought one another because they were forced to. Most gladiators fought for their lives. A famous gladiator was Spartacus. Spartans were the strongest Greek army. They were cruel and unforgiving. Spartans were feared throughout the land. Knights were cavalry warriors, skilled with the sword. there are many stories about brave knights in many countries. Samurai were like the Japanese police. They were skilled warriors trained with swords and bows. Assassins were blood-thirsty killers who killed without being seen. Some of the most skilled assassins were ninjas. Ninjas used many weapons such as nun-chucks, shrukens, and swords. These are very powerful forces.
Medieval Battles
Many battles were fought in the Medieval Ages. The battles were fought in many different ways. Most armies have three battle forces, archers, infantry and cavalry. The archers fought at range, using bows, crossbows, and slings. The infantry, or foot soldiers, fought up close, normally with swords, spears, or axes. The cavalry was the main force of the army. Cavalry warriors fought on horseback, using swords, lances, or spears. There are many battle techniques, such as the tortoise, which is is when the infantry puts their shields over themselves, to shield themselves from enemy arrows, and the phalanx, which is when the front row of soldiers put their shields in front of them, stick out spears, and walk forward. Some of the battles fought in the middle ages were the battle of Hastings, the battle of Ardres, and the battle of Bosworth Field.
What is your weapon of choice?
There were many kinds of weapons in medieval times. The most common weapon used was the sword. There are many kinds of swords. Some are curved, some are barbed, some are strong, and some are fast. Curved swords are bent to have a wider blade and to trick opponents. Some curved swords are katanas, wakixashies, cutlass, and scimitar. Another common weapon is the bow. There are two kinds of bows, the traditional longbow, and the recurve bow, which curves at the tips. Some other weapons are battle axes, spears, lances, javelins, scythe (staff with a curved blade at the end), shrukens (ninja stars), hidden blades, maces, morning stars (staffs with chains that have spiked balls on the end), clubs, staffs, crossbows, dirks, daggers, knives, and nun-chucks. There were also large battle artillery such as cannons, catapults, battle towers, chariots, and battering rams. So what is your weapon of choice?
